Get Excited about the little things, otherwise the BIG THINGS will never happen!

A powerful question I asked myself around 20 years ago was this: What’s the thing I will remember most when I lay on my death bed? Will I remember all the work I did? Or… will I remember more the people I did it with? Life Success – vs – Work Success

Then when my first son was born I thought… Will I remember my friends and family and all the good times we’ve had and strong happy emotions I felt or will I remember all the times we spent apart?

My immediate thought response was… So, why not gear all my thoughts and actions towards my true priorities; living, family, friends and take all the rest with a grain of salt? Because the rest just won’t matter that much in the end will it?

I found some old notes from around this same time when I was rearranging my perspective on work life balance. I would like to share them with you in hope that you derive some value.

Work hard and long when you’re younger so you can play long and hard when you’re older.

“Don’t think about retirement as much as you should think about freedom from “have-to’s.” Time served is not necessarily time lived.”

“Save a lot when you’re young so you don’t have to save at all when you’re old”

“Bet that the future will come and that you’ll get older, wiser and want the free time to explore even more those things you loved as a child”

“When you go at your own pace then it’s never a race!”
