Believe it or not there is a formula to predict wether or not change will be successful. I like formula’s because they’re quick, easy and help with our mental strategies. The biggest problem with change is that it usually has more of an effect on our emotional systems than our logical thoughts.
Nevertheless, let’s have a closer look at the formula. Although it’s academic in nature there are underlying studies to show it’s efficacy. It can be used to predict the success or otherwise of organizational change programs. I see relevance in this formula for personal use as well. The formula was created by Richard Beckhard, David Gleicher and refined by Kathie Dannemiller. It’s often referred to as Gleicher’s Formula.
D × V × F > R
D = Dissatisfaction with the current situation
V = Vision for what’s possible
F = First actions that can be taken towards the vision
R = Resistance
In other words, discontent with one’s current reality must be greater than one’s tolerance of it for change to be possible. I firmly believe that people will change for two reasons; either through motivation or desperation. I’ve written a few blog posts about this topic:
I hope some of these posts serve you in your time of change. One thing for sure…Change is constant! I know you are equipped to navigate any change that either you have imposed on yourself or life has thrown at you. You will not only survive but you will always be stronger than before the event. Friedrich Nietzsche said it best, “That which does not destroy you makes you stronger.”
So Be Bold, Be Brave, Be Strong and Go For it Today!!
