Relentless Focus

We know that true success is accomplished through a combination of hard work, strategic action and timing. But without persistent day to day focus, it’s very easy to lose your hard-won advantage. Relentless focus is the only consistently reliable attribute that will keep you and your business going from strength to strength.

When Warren Buffet and Bill Gates were attending a dinner party the host (Bill’s Mom) asked every guest to write down on a piece of paper what they thought was the single most important factor in their success both Bill and Warren wrote down the same one-word answer “FOCUS.”

It should, of course, not come as a surprise to anyone that’s ever accomplished anything of significance. In order to succeed at any task one has to commit 100% of their attention and effort on the task at hand; no distractions, just zone in and get the job done. This is the place where we get into the “flow” and become unstoppable. If we know this and have experienced this then why aren’t we able to do it at will throughout our entire workday?

I truly believe that in order to maintain focus you must be aware of all that surrounds you. You pay attention to your thoughts, your emotions, your energy level; to what you know and what you don’t know. You seek answers to things you don’t know and constantly test those things that you do know. Those things that have worked for you in the past. Are they still working for you now?

By actively focusing on the now and knowing that all the now’s strung together create the future, your future, the future you are striving for, the future that you create through your focus and the combined focus of all those who support you and your vision.

When the sun shines on an object it heats up and will continue to get hotter and hotter, however, if you focus the suns energy through a magnifying lens you will be able to multiply the effect 10 fold and create enough energy to spark a flame and ultimately burn through whatever object you’ve focused on.

Aligning your mental energy and physical emotions on your current project may or may not be the best use of your time and resources. However, with this type of energy, you will undoubtedly be able to finish the project in front of you and when you see it through to its completion then you’re free to focus your attention and energy on your next higher value project.

Doing this will help build an unstoppable momentum that will build your focus muscles and hopefully allow you to be asked to join the next Bill and Warren dinner party! Failing this, you will be inviting them to yours!
