Not really sure where this saying originated but it’s definitely an accurate description for successful sales people. Sometimes you’ve got to “jump out of your own skin” and pretend to be someone your not.
The ol saying, “fake it til you make it” comes to mind. If your struggling to make your numbers then it’s possible you’ve got to change your current behaviour. How are you pitching your services? How confident are you about your presentation and your company to deliver a fantastic product or service?
Just recently I went out to sign up new clients for a business that didn’t even exist in my market yet. I had no sales team to sell the service but I had a vision and a plan. I was honest with the clients about my current situation and displayed massive confidence and enthusiasm that we would deliver once they signed on with us.
The result was that once I signed my first client my story got better and my confidence soared. But to begin with I simply had to go out there and start approaching businesses and get those conversations flowing.
If you want to make a lasting impression sometimes you’ve got to get over yourself, around yourself and change your own behaviour in order to change/shift another’s.
Jump out of your own skin and get on with it!
