What if -vs- How come?

  • You stayed in your hometown?
  • You left your country to live in another?
  • You married your childhood sweetheart?
  • You didn’t take that job?
  • You started working for yourself?
  • You kept pushing to expand your limitations?

So many “What if’s” in life. And so many different responses to consider. But you see, you didn’t make that choice. And you wouldn’t have or couldn’t have even if you had it to do all over again.

You would have made the same choices when confronted with the same situations.  This is your personal human or Karmic law playing out. The decisions you made in the past were simply based on the level of life experience and wisdom you had available to you at the moment when your decision had to be made.

Now you would do things differently or change your behavioural patterns because you have experience on your side. You know your strengths and weaknesses and you have that wealth of knowledge which only comes through living life to it’s fullest and paying close attention along your journey.

Many of us consistently choose the easy way and sometimes we inadvertently choose the difficult way when confronted with challenges. In hindsight, the question that is most urgent is not the “What if” question but the “How come” question.

How come…

  • We keep making the same mistakes?
  • We won’t listen to sane advice?
  • We keep getting the same results?
  • We consistently shy away from healthy challenges?
  • We keep complaining about our lack of progression?
  • We keep asking “What If” questions?

“How come” opens up meaningful insights that “What if” questions can’t accomplish. What if’s are only fun thought experiments while “how come” questions sharpen our minds focus. They help us arrive at meaningful answers and help create a healthy dialogue which leads to new insights and hopefully more positive outcomes.

Que sera is not necessarily que sera when you start asking “How come” instead of “What if”!

Try it and I’m sure you will like it!
