What is it exactly that keeps us pushing towards our dreams? Why do we challenge ourselves just when things start to get monotonous? What separates the creative achievers from those that are happy to keep toiling for the status quo?
How much does our ability to look ourselves honestly, openly and with authentic compassion influence our motivation to push beyond what most people view as reasonable accomplishments?
I believe that it’s down to our particular desire to experience all that we can in this life’s incarnation.
We want to feel deeply , we want to see, hear, smell, touch and taste all that we can.
In contrast if one allows their mind to be cajoled then ones senses follow suit. So many people are unwittingly allowing their minds to be captured and slowly dulled and possibly corrupted by content created by others.
In order to remedy this unwanted state of being, we must be vigilant in screening the content that we allow ourselves to be exposed to, and or, be clear minded when absorbing new content.
As well, I am a huge proponent of encouraging everyone to journal their thoughts and flesh out exactly how they feel about their daily life. Writing pays dividends both in the inner and outer world.
Most writers will tell you that their biggest life experiences and career leaps happened because of their writing. If you’ve had more than one person tell you that you should write a book, well then maybe in this one instance, you should actually listen to them. Don’t you just love the contradictions of life?
You refer to the content of what we read and give our attention as an important way to keep us from disintegrating into mindless followers.
In the late 1990s I was finally correctly diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder with chronic depression. I started to learn to watch for deteriorating mood/attention changes by paying attention to the style of music I chose!
For example as I began spiraling into an extreme episode of depression and becoming suicidal, the music I played while at work shifted from classical to Ozzie Osborne’s Crazy Train!!!
Journaling has always been recommended by my Psychiatrists and Therapists as an important way to get ideas out of my head so I could sleep, express my emotions, see progress over time, and to ‘say’ what was too scary to speak out loud.
As always Dom your blog on business and life is very relevant and to the point!! Thank you!!!
