4 Amazing Social-Preneurs

by Dominic Kotarski

In your opinion what’s the best way to get positive exposure for your business, cause, or personal brand? I was just recently privy to a Public Salon event held at Vancouver’s Playhouse and saw first hand an amazing cast of social entrepreneurs. Some are running companies, some are teaching, some are entertaining us and some are doing positive research. What they all had in common was their compassion for our planet and all it’s inhabitants. They are working hard to do their part in making this world a better place.

Here’s a few of the gems from the evening’s speakers.

The killer whale watcher Lance Barrett Lennard shared with us some of his amazing research. We can now study killer whales from above with hexacopters, a new drone technology. Lance’s “eye in the sky” observes the whales size which determines their relative health and the population of certain delightful prey. Did you know that there are two groups of killer whales one group only eats fish while the other eats only mammals including other large whales?

Jason Lindstrum founder of Bucketlist.org wants us to decide on our Big Fat Scary Dreams, write them down on a community website then go out and accomplish our wonderful life’s ambitions and of course share it with our friends on all social platforms including other like-minded bucket listers. Like me, Jason was inspired by  Bonnie Ware , a palliative nurse who spent many years recording the most common regrets of the dying. She first recorded her dying patients epiphanies in a blog called Inspiration of Chai and because of it’s popularity ended up writing a book called “The Top 5 Regrets of the Dying.”

Mohamed Assani is a celebrated sitar player. He shared his imaginative, fantastically exhilarating and soothing music with us. He then shared his wisdom about how heartfelt music can have healing effects on all of us. He shares his skills  by teaching and performing all over the world. He had us all enjoying his innovative sitar style.

We were brought to tears by Claudia Li’s as she read out-loud her heartfelt letter written as a eulogy to her grandmother. She shared her wonderful memories of her grandmother. How from an early age she instilled strong morals and Chinese cultural heritage in such a way that didn’t take away from her Canadian upbringing and pride she felt in her birth country.  From her powerful upbringing Claudia is now leading the way for change in cross cultural understanding. She’s helping to conserve sharks by influencing wedding and events planners as well as hosts to go shark finless. How cool is Claudia? Very cool in my book.

There were many more guest speakers, performers and social-preneurs both in attendance and speaking about their work. It inspired me to share some of their stories with you.  So get out there and think about your business and what contribution you’re making to the betterment of our planet. I’m just collecting mo money for painful Movember stash. It’s off and so am I until next week.

Do what you can to make a difference and you just might find that the small difference you think you’re making is a huge difference to those that benefit.

I know these phenomenal social-preneurs do.

Thanks to Sam Sulivan & Lynn Zanatta for listening to your late great friend Abraham Rogatnick and bringing your Private Salons to the Public. 20 Years stong and growing. What a phenomenal achievement and supremely appreciated by all of us in attendance.
