When the Stars Align

“Man oh man that was one awesome day!”

When was the last time you said that to yourself? What would have to happen in your business for you to shout out that phrase every day? Every other Day? Once a Week? Err… once a month? If you can’t at least say that phrase once a month then you might want to consider taking a look at what’s obstructing the positive growth in your business.

There are many reasons a business might not be growing;

  • an ever-shifting or diminishing market
  • too much powerful competition
  • lack of new vision
  • lack of innovation or invention
  • lack of leadership
  • lack of capital to keep the business afloat

Just to name a few.

The solution is always hidden in the problem. So, often times, the key is to first learn how to properly identify the problem. Sometimes we’re too deep in our businesses to objectively identify the problem. On many instances, your customers will tell you if you ask. Not on a rote email survey but by taking the time to reach out and have a human conversation.

Your employees might have a truckload of ideas that they have been dying to tell you about or be able to implement but they might feel undervalued or be waiting for the right moment to come forward. Employees are sensitive to boss’s moods and if the boss is always running around looking stressed and frustrated then the employee will rightfully come to the conclusion that perhaps their solution can wait for another day when the boss is in a good mood and appears more receptive.

Your family and close friends might be able to provide some insight that could be of value and worth consideration. And don’t under estimate the value of a professionally qualified consultant or coach. Preferably one that’s had experience in your industry or success in building their own businesses. Surprisingly this is not an obvious choice for many struggling business owners.

We’ve all spent a good fortune on our education whether we went through the school of hard knocks or through institutions of higher education. Now that your running your own business how committed are you to continually nurture and invest in increasing their knowledge and skill in order to keep pushing your business to new heights?

Everything has a price, but the biggest price is the one you end up paying because you failed to invest in the areas that your business needs. And you and your people will always demand the highest return on investment.
