The Importance of Sales Attitude and How to Build Your Business

What’s a sales attitude? Why should you learn how to get it, use it, develop it and polish it off when necessary? There are not too many businesses that can get off the ground, stay off the ground and thrive in any market without the use of proper sales channels. If you’re running your own business and you don’t have the budget to hire a salesperson then by default you are the sole rainmaker. This is not a great position to find yourself in unless you love the craft of creating sales for your business.

If you’re like most people then the chances are you would rather avoid the act of selling if at all possible. You probably don’t mind engaging in conversations about your products or services with potential clients, either those that have been referred to you or have reached out to you through your various marketing initiatives. But what if those leads simply aren’t coming in and you can see your receivables dwindling by the week? There’s simply nobody to turn to except yourself.  This is the moment when you can take the first steps to develop a love for a fun and easy sales approach that is suited to your own personality.

If truth be told there are very few people who really enjoy the act of selling, however, there are hundreds of thousands of solo-preneurs around the world who have adopted the right sales attitude and have adjusted their thoughts, energy, and emotions towards creating the business of their dreams. What they’ve accomplished by changing their attitude is nothing short of miraculous. They have learned to revise their incessant and fruitless self-talk about how they have never been good at sales, how they don’t see themselves as a typical salesperson and how they would hate to think that people would view them as such.

They’ve learned how to get people to like them and want to do business with them at the same time. They’ve learned that by using the right approach of mutual respect and easy engagement they are able to network effectively, easily ask for appointments and naturally move towards next steps and firm agreements.

These people weren’t born with the gift of the gab and extroverted personalities tilted towards business development. They simply took the time to recognize the true weaknesses that were holding them back from the ultimate business they wanted to have. Which is often defined as “doing great work with clients and customers that really appreciate us.”

There are very few businesses that keep the same customers or clients year after year. Most companies will be losing business and gaining business each year. The goal, of course, is to end up in a more preferable situation year after year with each incremental increase making your business better, stronger and more valuable.

Then it will be your choice to keep going, expand, sell out, go public, scale down, pivot, change course. All of these are possible because you’ve developed a love for the process of sales, not only meeting but exceeding your customers and clients needs. You’ve understood the great maxim that you really can make a great business and a fortune just by being you – “your authentic self” – and the way you did it was by understanding the power of enthusiasm, passion, connection, humbleness, willingness to learn, compassion, honesty, and integrity which are the qualities that make and create the right Sales Attitude!!

When you’ve got it, you don’t fear a thing because you know you can keep creating businesses again and again, and the greatest of discoveries is when you realize that the power lies in you and… “yes”,  the powerful motivational saying…

“If it’s to be it’s up to me!”*

is the most encouraging advice you can not only build your business by but live by!!

*surprisingly this quote is of anonymous origin, but I believe it’s a powerful entry into your self-development lexicon listed under “collective wisdom.”
