Start Where You Are

“Wellbeing is your birthright take control of yours NOW so you can help others do the same”

There’s very few of us who can live day after day, year after year without getting a little out of balance. Ultimately, if we don’t sometimes stop to take an assessment of where we are and where we want to go, we might find we’re heading down the wrong path or worse moving in the wrong direction.

One thing’s for sure, “You can’t change your life without improving your awareness”. The fact that you weren’t paying enough attention to your “Whole Life” is what got you off kilter to begin with. We often ignore the signs that are telling us to slow down, pause, take a look at life and our current situation. Assess where you are in different areas and where you want to be. Keep a close eye on the troubled areas and then make a plan of action on how you can fix it so you can make it better and move on.

There’s an excellent tool we can use to take a quick snap shot of our life and where we’re heading at the moment. This Life Balance wheel allows us to take a quick snap shot of our important life essentials so we can see where we need to pay a bit more attention thus avoiding future catastrophes. (see figure below)

The best way to use this tool is to look at each section separately. Imagine the center as 0 and the outer edge of the pie as 10. Rate each pie section on a scale for 0 to 10 on how satisfied you are at the moment with each life category. After you’ve rated each piece then draw a line across only that piece of pie to illustrate your current level of satisfaction.

The next task is to shade in each section to see how smooth your wheel would roll if, in fact, it resembles a wheel at all after filling in each section. Your wheel may look something like this? Not a very efficient operating wheel, it could be a little clunky rolling down life’s road. Needless to say, many of us trudge on and ignore the warning signs when we should be looking for ways to nurture our “out of whack priorities” and get back to some sort of balance.

Hopefully it rolls well but if you see there are areas that need improvement then this graph shows you where you should start focusing from today.

Awareness of the areas you need to focus on is the first step on your journey to create a smoother running life. Don’t procrastinate on this life wheel. Remember no blame, no shame just start moving your awareness and your behavior in the direction you want to go. Congratulations, half the battle is won by making this shift.

Be sure to let us know how you’re developing in these areas and share some tips on this blog in the comments section. let’s share our innate wisdom so we can all benefit and grow in our well-being.
