Being Bold

“What You Can Do, or Dream You Can, Begin It; Boldness Has Genius, Power, and Magic in It”

When I read this quote by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and reflect on its meaning, I can feel and completely understand it’s positive power. I can remember my father telling me his own form of similar wisdom when I began playing contact sports, “hit as hard as you can and you’ll never get hurt” he would commandingly say as I would attempt to heed his advice on the field. And another bit of helpful wisdom I picked up from an astute business associate who said, “He who hesitates waits.”

The wisdom of Goethe’s words cannot be underestimated. We know it as instinctively as we know a committed, passionate person when we come in contact with one.

  • What attributes does a committed person have that a fence sitter does not?
  • What is it about the passionate person that allows them to be 100% certain that they are making the right decision and committing to the right actions?
  • Considering those times when we’ve succeeded in an endeavor, what was it about that moment of commitment when we focused 100% on what we were doing and how we were thinking; when our focus got sharp and our bodies chimed in?

The power of commitment is in its ability to eliminate doubt in the present moment and focus the mind, body, and spirit on The Now, The Moment. This beautiful act allows bystanders and skeptics to either go along with the fast moving focused energy or move out of the way, powerless to change the forward momentum of the committed mass of energy.

“Jump on board or get out of the way because here we come,” the mass of energy seems to say. “Feel free to watch from the sidelines if you want and marvel at the building momentum and know that you had a chance to be a part of it but chose the safe route,” the mass of energy concludes your thoughts for you.

Don’t worry there’ll be another chance to join, another rush of energy another massively committed group or singular committed individual that’s happy being a light onto themselves. Of course, you could always choose to be a passionately committed person for yourself as well. That could be a powerful life changing choice if you choose.

The thrill of being your own source of power, your own boss, your own coach and your own cheerleader. In the beginning that’s how most of us started and that is more than likely how most of us will end. On our first little journey we arrived into the loving arms of the world and were marveled at and hopefully, we will have a similar experience when we depart, albeit into another world.
